“I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” John 17:20-21, NIV
Dear Praying Friends,
As we embark on a new year, we turn our attention to one of Jesus’ final prayers for His followers. His words in John 17:21 show an unmistakable link between oneness amongst His followers and the world’s belief in Him.
When we consider the great amount of time, resources and energy that go into evangelism, it is astounding to consider that Jesus already gave us the blueprint for the ultimate gospel marketing campaign: oneness amongst His people!
The sobering fact we face today is that disunity among Christ-followers propagates atheism in our culture.
However, as Paul asserts in 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, God “uses us to spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ everywhere” and the “aroma that brings life” to those who are being saved. In a very real sense, our unity and oneness as a body brings about an “aroma a belief” and a compelling magnetism to the gospel.
This January, let’s pray for silos and divisions to be brought down and for bridges to be built between congregations and Christ-followers everywhere. May collaboration, oneness of heart, and prayer for one another be the norm across our state and beyond!
