“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20, NIV
Dear Praying friends,
Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28 stands out as a blueprint for every believer. We are to go into the world and make disciples, not just converts. While Jesus ministered to thousands, His life’s focus was life on life discipleship with the twelve.
In his book “The Master Plan of Evangelism,” Robert Coleman outlines the biblical strategy for advancing the gospel and making disciples. He states:
“Having called his men, Jesus made a practice of being with them. This was the essence of his training program—just letting his disciples follow him….Knowledge was gained by association before it was understood by explanation.”
As the body of Christ, we need to rededicate ourselves to the simple art of discipleship by investing in others and leading by example. Just as prayer is to be a natural outflow of every believer’s life, so is discipleship. As we eagerly anticipate the fruit of our prayers for new believers, let’s pray that every one of those new believers would have someone to disciple them!
Let’s pray together that we would see a movement in Ohio and beyond of disciples making disciples. May we return to this blueprint set forth by Jesus and follow in His example.
