Praying for Sanctity of Life in Ohio
“And they sang a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.’”
— Revelation 5:9, NIV
Dear Praying Friends,
Every purchase we make produces an exchange that reveals an item’s true value. What the buyer pays is the item’s worth. In our world, this looks like a cell phone purchased for $899 or a pair of sunglasses exchanged for $19. The price tag reveals the value in the currency of the economy at hand.
Calvary, the centerpoint of all human history preaches to us about God’s great grace and His magnificent character of love and justice. It reveals to us something astonishing about ourselves as well. Calvary’s great exchange proclaims the worth of the human soul. Revelation 5:9 reveals this astounding truth: “with Your blood You purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” The price tag revealing our worth was not in dollars, but in the currency of heaven: the precious blood of Christ.
The inherent worth and dignity of every human life may not be acknowledged by the prevailing culture, but the pain of suppressing this truth prevails. Our city and our nation are plagued by grief and loss due to abortion, school shootings and senseless acts of murder and violence. Every human life, no matter their age, class or creed is made in the image of God.
This month, let’s intercede for life to be valued, honored, and protected. As the Apostle Paul admonishes us, may our faithful witness shine out amidst this warped and crooked generation as we “hold firmly to the word of life.” (Phillippians 2:14-16).
Pregnancy Decision Health Centers reported 952 decisions for life last year and provided more than 6,000 parenting courses for new families—tangible evidence that compassion and practical help are making a difference. Nationally, we have also seen a near 15% decrease in homicides and a 4.5% drop in violent crime. We continue to ask God for a dramatic decrease in violence across our state, believing Him for a reduction in murder rates and a culture that protects life at every stage. May these answered prayers and ongoing needs stir us to renewed intercession!
Blessings to you this September!
